What’s the difference between “Los Jorges” and “Los Jorges honoríficos”?
Both of them are movie awards whose winners are selected by Los Jorges jury members.
However, nominations for Los Jorges are predetermined by the Oscars nominations each year. This means that the nominations for both – Los Jorges AND the Oscars – are exactly the same. However, the results and hence, respective awards may differ, as they did in previous years.
On the other hand, Los Jorges honoríficos are honorary awards whose nominations have two sources:
- Open nominations by all Los Jorges jury members, taking into account the respective release requirements of each year.
- All films nominated for Los Jorges (i.e. the Oscars) in any category other than “Best Film” are automatically nominated for the honorary award of Best Film.
There is currently ine categories for nominating Los Jorges honoríficos:
- Best Film: excellent movie that has not been nominated in this category for the regular Los Jorges (and, therefore, the Oscars) that same year.
Which nominations are eligible?
The eligibility period for movies is the same as for the Oscars. For this year, this means first-time release dates between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2024. Both releases in cinemas and online platforms (Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.) are eligible for nomination.
What’s the difference between “nominating” and “voting”?
Nominating a film means that you appreciated or enjoyed it and would not only recommend it, but also consider it worthy of an award. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you think it’s the best thing you’ve ever seen in your life, but – considering everything else you’ve watched the past 12 months or so – you would definitely recommend it, not only to your friends but also to others, especially other jury members who may appreciate your recommendation 😉
Note that YOUR ONLY WAY TO NOMINATE additional films that have not been nominated for the Oscars IS VIA LOS JORGE HONORÍFICOS.
Voting is something completely different from nominating in the sense that it is a rather limited procedure, meaning that the options you will have to cast your vote are determined by the previous nomination process described above. However, voting remains the most important process besides nominating as it is THE indispensable procedure for determining the winners of both awards: Los Jorges and Los Jorges honoríficos.
Each year, all jury members receive a voting form which includes all nominations from which they can chose to vote their favourite of each category. The winners of each award are determined by the votes of the jury.
How can I submit a nomination? How can I vote?
Only Los Jorges jury members can submit nominations and vote. If you would like to become jury member, send an e-mail to losjorges2012 [at] gmail.com to receive your Jury password to submit your nominations.
What’s the deadline for submitting nominations for Los Jorges honoríficos?
Friday, 21 February 2025. However, jury members are strongly encouraged to submit their nominations much earlier so as to give the other jury members enough time to watch the movie and decide whether to vote for it.
Which films have been nominated?

Nominations for the regular Los Jorges depend on the announcement of the Oscars which are published on 23 January 2025 on losjorges.com.
What if a nomination for Los Jorges honoríficos is also nominated for the Oscars?
A nomination for Los Jorges honoríficos that coincides with Oscar nominations in the exactly same category (e.g. best film, best actress) is invalid.
When do jury members vote?
Jury members will have a few days to cast their votes by Friday, 28 February 2025.
When will the results be announced?
On Saturday, 1 March evening CET on losjorges.com.
